Eggnog Flan, An Easy Christmas Dessert Recipe

I love flan! It’s soft and sweet with a creamy texture.  It reminds me of home, and it brings back childhood memories. And this eggnog flan recipe is so easy to make and versatile that just with a few touches, it can become a memorable Holiday dessert.

This year I have been experimenting with different desserts, from eggnog and cranberry Arroz con Leche to pumpkin and peanut butter parfaits. And I still have not decided which dessert I will serve for the holiday celebrations.  This time I decided to give my traditional flan recipe a holiday twist by adding eggnog.eggnog flan

But, What is Eggnog Made Of?

Eggnog is a rich, sweet beverage that has become a standard Christmas drink during the holidays. It is a concoction of milk, eggs, sugar, heavy cream, and vanilla extract blended to creamy perfection. It is often spiked with distilled spirits like brandy, bourbon, or rum and topped with grated cinnamon or nutmeg.

In general, store-bought eggnog contains naturally gluten-free ingredients, but sometimes, they have added thickeners or preservatives. And although I made this a gluten-free Christmas dessert recipe, it’s always a good idea to read labels carefully, especially if you have family remembers with food allergies.eggnog flan

So, Is Eggnog Custard?

You might be wondering what’s the difference between eggnog and custard. Eggnog is more of a beverage with a creamier consistency, while custard is a thicker pudding with a lighter flavor. They both start with the same base ingredients of eggs and cream, but custard and eggnog taste (and handle) a bit differently.

The main difference between them is that custard has to be boiled or cooked, while traditional eggnog isn’t. Plus, eggnog is a holiday classic drink with spices like nutmeg and cinnamon, while custard is more of a dessert with a lighter vanilla aftertaste. And with this creamy eggnog flan recipe, you can combine both delicious flavors into one amazing Christmas dessert!

I also love how light flan is, perfect for Thanksgiving, as you are usually so full of turkey, cranberry, (and all the other delicious holiday foods) that sometimes you don’t have room for dessert. Plus, this unique Christmas dessert is Gluten-free and only has four ingredients!
