This year my family has really gotten into the soccer championship and watching the games together has been a wonderful experience. The kids have really gotten into it and we have been able to share with them the excitement of the games. I feel that sharing our love of soccer really brings us closer. Guatemala doesn’t really have a strong soccer team and since we usually don’t make it to the big games we are cheering for lots of Latin American teams this year and of coarse cheering for the USA. As the US or any of our other favorite teams get ahead and win more games the excitement builds up and you can probably hear us screaming GOOOOOLLLL! from a block away.
Soccer has brought us all together and this is specially true about my son and my husband who not only share the excitement about watching the games but also about playing soccer. During half time or when the game is over they will rush out to the back yard and play a friendly game or chamusca, pretending to be their favorite soccer players while my daughter and I join in or cheer them on.
During the weekends we go to my inlay’s house and all of us watch the game together and when our team scores a golazo we all explode with excitement, cheering, hugging … hey there might even have been some tears of joy once or twice.

It’s amazing when parents can get that connection with their child and just have a bond with a love for something. Whether it sports or anything else.
I think it’s just great when the whole family gets together and enjoys sporting events together. It adds a closeness. Lots of families don’t do that and the sports can actually cause arguments because one or the other isn’t at all interested.
Sports can bring anyone together, that’s one of the beauties of them.
To be honest we aren’t much of a sports family, but we do enjoy doing things together as often as we can. Great post and lovely family!

Soccer is a big deal in Ecuador. When the team lost against France there was a national mourning here. People were actually crying outside on the streets. It was tough!
