soccer party themed avocado ranch dip

Soccer is huge in Guatemala and I remember playing with my friends and cousins growing up and I have very fond memories of my family and friends getting together to watch big soccer matches on the TV. Now that I have a son I have passed on my love for this sport and it’s something we can share even con el abuelo who takes advantage of every opportunity to get out the soccer ball and teach my little guy some moves, they will even do it inside the house sometimes despite my mom’s “no playing ball in the house” rule.

My little guy loves soccer and I love going with him to soccer practice and soccer games.  It’s our special time together and I really enjoy sharing with him my love of futbol (soccer). One of our special soccer traditions includes enjoying a snack together afterwards along with a POWERADE®. The POWERADE® always has to be red, red is his favorite color and he’s really serious about getting a red POWERADE®, it’s his special soccer “treat”.

When it’s my turn to bring the snacks and drinks for his team I make sure to pick something that will keep all the kids hydrated and that they will also enjoy.  This past week I brought some fresh fruit along with red POWERADE® for everyone.  I put grapes and blueberries in fun packages and printed out tags with soccer inspired encouraging messages to motivate them. You can download the soccer printables HERE to make these at home.

I’m glad I did because this week they played with a team that gave them quite a beating and some of the kids, including my little guy where a little bit disappointed but the fun snacks really brought smiles to everyone’s faces and made us all remember that it’s not about winning but about always doing your best and improving and getting better. All the kids always look forward to the snack after the game and this time they where really excited to get something fun, this made my little guy the Sideline Hero and I’m sure they are looking forward to the next time we are in charge of snacks.  These snacks and printables would also be great for a soccer themed party!

fresh produce and Powerade

I also brought along some crudités and a homemade avocado ranch dip for the parents and we all enjoyed it on the sideline while we watched the little ones play.  This avocado ranch dip is super easy to make and it’s perfect for dipping fresh produce like grape tomatoes, celery, carrots and broccoli.  If you are throwing a soccer themed party at home you can put the dip in a trophy to make it more festive.

  2. Place mashed avocado and all of the other ingredients in food processor and pulse for a few seconds until the dip is smooth.

IMG_0016This dip is not just easy to make but it’s also has a lot less calories than a regular ranch dip as I replaced the Mayo for greek yogurt and this tastes better than your regular, store bought ranch dip too!

I bought the 12 pack of POWERADE® at my neighborhood Walmart along with the fruits for the kids and the fresh veggies for the parents.
