7 Ways To Enjoy The Guatemalan Jungle At Las Lagunas Hotel

Located just minutes from the city of Santa Elena and the island of Flores in Guatemala, Las Lagunas Boutique Hotel is the perfect place to stay when visiting the ancient Mayan ruins of Tikal in Guatemala.

Set in the rainforest, on the shores of a small lagoon and surrounded by hundreds of acres of private natural reserve Las Lagunas combines a sense of tranquility and connection with nature with all the comforts you would expect from a five-star hotel. The location lends itself to a wide range of activities and adventure options.

Here are 7 ways in which you can enjoy the Guatemalan jungle at Las Lagunas hotel.

1. Bird watching.

The area is home to a wide range of beautiful birds, and you will have no trouble spotting many of them, especially around the lagoons. So grab your binoculars or your camera and keep your eyes on the tree branches as you walk along the jungle paths.

I encountered all sorts of exotic birds from loud and bright-colored parrots flying in flocks over the rainforest canopy to toucans and lots of egrets and other water birds along the banks of the lagoon.

2.Take a boat tour and visit the monkey islands.

The lagoon is dotted with a handful of islets; small masses of lush green forest that seem to float on the water. Two of the islets are inhabited by rescued spider monkeys and during the daily boat tour you can stop to feed them. Don’t be surprised if one or two of them climb on the boat and tag along for a short ride.

3. Go kayaking in the lagoon.

Las Lagunas provides you with kayaks which you can take out into the lagoon. It’s a great way to exercise as you explore the beauty of the lake and get a great vantage point for watching the jungle from the water.

4. Get a relaxing massage surrounded by the beauty fo the jungle.

The Las Lagunas spa is surrounded by thick rainforest, and the big windows in many of the rooms bring that natural beauty inside of the space visually. The massage rooms feature big windows overlooking the rainforest, making you feel as if you are getting a massage surrounded by the jungle.

5. Take an ATV tour of the natural reserve.

Every afternoon you can take a 4×4 ATV tour of the private natural reserve that surrounds the hotel. The free tour, which is included with your stay, lasts about an hour and a half and during which you will visit a wide array of rescued animals which now call Las Lagunas home. We saw deer, a gorgeous Jaguar, dantas or tapirs, wild turkeys and ocelots along with wild boars and a great variety of wild birds.

6. Go for a trek in the jungle.

There are various paths around the hotel and you can go trekking in the jungle and enjoy the beautifuld vegetation and scenery.

7. Experience the jungle waking up.

There is nothing in like watching the sun rise over the lagoon from the behind the thick jungle canopy and listen as the rainforests wakes up. All you have to do is step out into your own private covered terrace. I am an early riser so I headed to the pool area and sat on one of the beach chairs where I enjoyed a symphony of sounds as animals, from parakeets to howler monkeys rejoiced with the first rays of sunlight.

You can also check out the video below, the symphony of sounds as the jungle creatures wake up and welcome the day is pretty amazing.

With its beautiful lakeshore setting, relaxed ambiance, and proximity to the lost Mayan cities Las Lagunas Boutique Hotel is the ideal place to enjoy the beauty of the Guatemalan rainforest and a great starting point for enjoying the many adventures the Petén region has to offer.

This boutique hotel really left an impression on my, with its secluded jungle setting. If you haven’t already make sure to read all about my experience at Las Lagunas Boutique Hotel right HERE.
