Port St Lucie and Fort Pierce are located in the heart of the Treasure Coast just about an hour north of Palm Beach. We really loved that these two small cities have a laid-back, old Florida small-town vibe, which combined with beautiful beaches and lots of activities that give you an opportunity to experience the real Florida make for a fantastic destination for families. Here are some of our favorite things to do for families on the Treasure Coast.
Horseback Riding On The Beach
There are very few places in Florida where you can ride horses on the beach. I love horses and I used to ride when I was a teenager, it’s been a while and horseback riding on the beach was one of the things I was looking forward the most about our trip to St Lucie County. We met the people of Tours on Horseback at the Frederick Douglas Memorial Park in Hutchinson Island. This unspoiled natural stretch of beach is beautiful with only the ocean on one side and a forest of Australian pines on the other, no buildings, houses or hotels. The leisurely one hour ride was a wonderful experience for us all. I really liked that the horses were well cared for and very gentle and my 10 year old who has no experience riding felt safe and so did my 12 year old daughter who has autism and some motor challenges.
Tours on Horseback is one of the very few companies in Florida that has a permit for doing horseback riding on the beach tours and it’s the only company that can do it in all of South Florida. So if you are visiting Port St Lucie don’t miss this one in a lifetime experience. Rides are $45 per person and they ride seven days a week in the morning and afternoon rain or shine. The St Lucie County Aquarium
The St Lucie County Aquarium is a great place to visit with the kids to learn more about the local ecosystems. The aquarium features six aquarium displays and a touch tank. The exhibits reflect the habitats typically found in the Indian River Lagoon and surrounding coastal waters.
Beautiful Beaches
I love that Port St Lucie and Fort Pierce still have many pristine beaches, far from the crowded beaches filled with hotels, resorts, and beach condos.
On the Fort Pierce Inlet you can take walk along Jetty Park where you where there lovely little walkway along the water that has several bench swings where you can sit and watch the boats and the pelicans that like to hang round the rocks lining the water. You can walk out onto the jetty and maybe even catch sight of a dolphin or two! After trolling through Jetty Park we spent some time on the beach there.
If you’re looking for peaceful waters, perfect for small children, check out Bathtub Reef Beach near Stuart.
If you’re traveling with your four legged friend be sure to check out Walton Rock Dog beach, one of the few beaches where you can enjoy the surf with your dog; this off-leash dog beach is doggie heaven!

Club Med Sandpiper Bay was the perfect starting point for our Treasure Coast family vacation and from there we had the opportunity to explore the area and come back to amazing food and fun shows and dance parties at night.

Traveling is fun especially when you are with your family. Last time I had visited the area of Maldives. We had an awesome party and enjoyment there along with nice traveling.
