Tips For Getting Kids To Have a Nutritious Breakfast

Sometimes it seems to me like there are not enough hours in the day, even my kid’s day is packed with activities.  Both of my children get up at 6am and are on the bus at 6:30am, needless to say scraping them from the bed when it’s still dark outside and struggling to get them dressed for school when they are half asleep is hard enough but trying to get them to eat some scrambled eggs or waffles is just impossible.  The truth is that at 6:15am they are still asleep and I need an easy option that is quick and easy not just for me but for them as well.

I recently found about the new Honey Bunches of Oats Breakfast Biscuits: these biscuits are made with 100% whole grain, and are loaded with fiber and protein, providing long lasting energy. Packed in convenient pouches of four biscuits, they are the ideal on-the-go breakfast for the entire family. Honey Bunches of Oats Breakfast Biscuits are available in three delicious flavors, Honey Roasted, Strawberry and Chocolate Chip.  My son just loves the chocolate chip ones and I just throw a pack in my backpack when I go out to the gym or go out to take pictures for a post or run errands so now my breakfast is not just a cup of coffee!

Tips For Getting Kids To Eat A Nutritious Breakfast

  • Give them choices.  When kids have a say in what they are having for breakfast they will be more willing to eat it without a fuss!
  • Make it fun. My kids love dunking the Honey Bunches of Oats in milk, and I have to be honest: I love it too! Being flexible and letting them have some fun and yes, maybe even play a bit with their food (as long as they are not throwing it across the room or making a huge mess) makes breakfast time more enjoyable for everyone.  When the days are nice we eat breakfast on the patio and being outdoors just makes breakfast time (or snack time) so much better.

  • Sneak in some nutrition. When we have more time, usually on weekends, we make chocolate chip pancakes and sneak everything from sweet potatoes, to bananas or carrots into the pancakes and the kids love them.  During the weekdays the Honey Bunches of Oats Breakfast Biscuits are perfect: they look and taste like a cookie and each individual package has 5 grams of protein (which is almost as much as the protein found in one egg) provides more than 55 percent of your day’s whole grain and 4 grams of fiber.
  • Be flexible. Yes the ideal thing would be for us to all have breakfast at the table, but sometimes that is just not possible. I would rather have my kids have breakfast in the car (on those days when I do take them to school) than not have them have breakfast at all so if there is an option I can grab on-the-go and that is nutritious, then I am a happy Dad!  I even keep some Honey Bunches of Oats Breakfast Biscuits in the car just in case and they make a great snack too!.
