Staying in shape when you travel

The school season is officially in full swing and we’re gearing up for the holiday season. Here in Florida we’re welcoming the drier air and the cooler weather. We have had busy weeks with weekend travel, getting back into the school routine and preparing for the holidays. And sometimes when you are busy it’s so hard to keep up with your exercise routine. That is why it’s important to get creative and find ways to exercise and eat well. For me the biggest challenge is eating healthy and exercising while I’m traveling. But fall and holiday travel doesn’t have to keep you from reaching being healthy and fit! Here are some easy things you can do to make sure you eat well and stay in shape during holiday travel!

Tips for Staying in Shape When You Travel

Take advantage of hotel gyms and fitness programs. Many hotels not only have gyms but also offer everything from yoga and spinning classes. Check out your hotel’s website before arriving and fit some exercise into your schedule by signing up for classes or planning when you will hit the gym or the pool. Adding these plans to your travel itinerary before getting to your destination will make it easier for you to include exercise into your trip.

Include exercise into your travel plans. Whether it’s taking a walking or biking tour of a new city, or signing up for paddle boarding lessons, or bike rentals there are always lots of activities that combine exercise and fun. Take a kayaking trip with the kids and work your upper body, take a hike or a run near your hotel or try something even more adventurous like mountain biking or horseback riding.

Be prepared with the right snack. When you’re traveling and you get hungry you often end up eating whatever you can find. Instead, be prepared and bring with you nutritious, high protein snacks so you can stay fueled.

I always have Pure Protein® Bars in my gym bag and pack them when we’re traveling. They are a great option with few calories and high protein content. They are versatile and easy to take on-the-go. I have tried a lot of protein bars and snacks, and Pure Protein® is my favorite and my go-to bar every time because of their great taste and because they keep me full and provide me with the fuel to power through my workouts and exercise routine. Each undeniably delicious bar contains 19 to 21 grams of protein with 6 grams of sugar or less – providing on-the-go, quality protein to help support lean muscle and an active lifestyle.

Make the right food choices at restaurants. Eating out at restaurants when you’re traveling often means eating more and eating foods that are high in calories and low in nutrition. However, you can still enjoy eating out while eating healthy if you make the right choices on the menu like starting off with a salad, staying away from creamy, stuffed and fried dishes, ordering from the lite menu items, skipping desserts, asking for vegetable sides instead of fries, skipping the bread and drinking water.
