El t\u00e9rmino \u00absheca\u00bb proviene del idioma k&#8217;iche&#8217;, donde \u00abshe\u00bb significa sobra o residuo, y \u00abka'\u00bb se refiere a la piedra de moler. Algunos dicen que se originaron en San Pedro Sacatep\u00e9quez, San Marcos, donde los ind\u00edgenas ya hac\u00edan un tipo de pan similar llamado sheca. Como resultado, este tipo de pan ahora se conoce espec\u00edficamente como shecas san pedranas. Los habitantes originales de este municipio tambi\u00e9n se llaman shecanos, ya que se les atribuye la creaci\u00f3n de las shecas.<\/p>\n<p>En Quetzaltenango, se cree que la producci\u00f3n de shecas se adopt\u00f3 de San Marcos. Sin embargo, aquellos que las elaboraban a\u00f1adieron ingredientes \u00fanicos y les dieron el caracter\u00edstico nudo en la parte superior. Ya sea acompa\u00f1adas de queso, frijoles, jalea o disfrutadas con una taza humeante de chocolate caliente, las xecas brindan una explosi\u00f3n de alegr\u00eda en cada bocado. Pero su importancia va m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de ser simplemente comida. Los quetzaltecos a menudo llevan xecas como regalos especiales para sus familiares y amigos que viven en diferentes partes del pa\u00eds.
