Monsters University Mike Cake Pops

Monsters Universty Mike cake pops

If you have been following the blog you know that we had a little Monsters Univesity movie night party the a few weeks ago. We made lots of fun Monsters U themed treats but my favorite where the Mike cake pops. Believe it or not this was my first time making cake pops and it was not only a lot of fun but a lot easier that I thought.

Ingredients

  • 1 box cake mix
  • green food dye
  • white frosting any type your like
  • green candy melts
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • lollipop sticks you can get them at most grocery stores in the cooking isle or at Michaels
  • big candy eyes you can get them at Michale’s
  • lifesaver gummies
  • a block of craft foam

Instructions

  1. Mix the batter for the cake according to the directions on the box.
  2. Add a couple of drops of green food dye and mix until batter is green.
  3. Bake a cake according to directions on the box.
  4. Let cake cook and then crumble it with your hands.
  5. Add 1 to 2 cups of frosting, add a little a time and mix with your hands until you get the right consistency.
  6. Form your cake pop mixture into small balls, about 3-4 tablespoons each. You don't want them to be too big, just so they easily fit in the palm of your hand.
  7. Put cake balls in the refrigerator for 1-2 hours or the freezer for half and hour.
  8. While they are in the refrigerator cut green lifesaver gummies into triangles, two for each cake pop.
  9. Melt one bag of green candy melts on the microwave, you can add 1 tablespoon of canola or vegetable oil so that the melted candy is smoother.
  10. Dip a lollipop stick in the melted chocolate and insert the stick 2/3 through a cold cake ball.
  11. Wait until the stick hardens and then dip the cake ball in the melted chocolate.
  12. Allow any excess chocolate to drip off the pop before sticking it in craft foam to cool off.
  13. Before the chocolate sets place an eye at the center of each pop and place two lifesaver triangles on each side of the pops as horns.
  14. Leave cake pops in the foam until chocolate sets completely.

  1. I’ve got a DVD tape movie same as that of the first title, it’s Monster Inc. I wonder how it is related to that Monster University that you guys saw. My 2-year old (well, she was 1+ age that time) was not a happy camper watching at it, she’s scared of that big good monster. But then, that’s her feeling. For me, I love it. I think in the long run or when she’ll grow-up, she’ll love it just like your kids. 🙂
