School’s out! Or, almost out, depending on where you are in the country. However, there’s no time like the present to plan some fun, family summer activities. In my house we love movie night and with later summer bedtimes we could have a movie night 7 days a week, if we wanted! On summer break we like to take movie night outdoors and enjoy one of our top 5 family films under the stars, picnic style.
There is nothing more fun than watching a movie under the stars or as you enjoy the sunset from your backyard. To make your backyard movie night a complete success you can follow some of the tips below.
Tips For Having An Outdoor Movie Night
- Get comfortable. Throw some beach towels, blankets or sleeping bags over the grass and add some pillows so everyone can get cozy.
- Decide where you will be watching the movie. Whether you are watching it on an outdoor screen or putting your TV outside plan ahead so that you have what you need.
- Create a festive ambiance. Use what you have and keep it simple, there is no need to spend money. I used some papel picado garlands I had from a previous party and set up some bright colored lanterns I got at the dollar store. - Get some snacks. It’s not movie night without popcorn! You can create a fun and easy popcorn recipe or even a popcorn bar along with other easy foods like hot dogs and pizza. Have drinks for everyone close by in a cooler so no one has to pause the movie to go inside to grab something to drink.
- Keep the bugs away. Summer means warm weather but it can also mean mosquito season so be sure to be prepared. I put out some lanterns with citronella candles which not only kept the pesky mosquitoes away but also gave a nice warm lighting that added to the festive ambiance.
- Pick a movie everyone will like. Go for the family classics or the latest family hits and make sure it’s a movie that everyone will like no matter what their age it. Here are our top 5 summer movie recommendations that everyone is sure to love and that you can find on Vudu:
