If you have been blogging for a while, you probably have articles sitting in your archives that still get traffic but aren’t earning nearly as much as they could. I certainly did. As my travel content grew, so did the number of affiliate opportunities I was missing. A Guatemala itinerary might naturally lead someone to book a hotel, tour or transfer. A destination guide might help someone decide they need a rental car. A completely different article might be a good place to recommend an eSIM.

I knew those opportunities were there. What I didn’t have was the time to go back through hundreds of articles and add all of those links manually. That is what initially attracted me to Travelpayouts, but after using it I realized the automation was only part of what made the platform so useful. I also love having so many different types of travel affiliate programs available in one place, being able to manage them from one dashboard and having tools that make it easier to monetize both new content and the enormous amount of content I have already created.
I started using Travelpayouts on one website. I was so happy with how easy it was to implement that I added it to my other two travel sites, too. Honestly, I wish I had done it years ago.

THE BASICS
What Is Travelpayouts?
Travelpayouts is a travel-focused affiliate platform that lets publishers and content creators monetize their content through a wide variety of travel brands and services. What I like about it is that it isn’t focused on just one part of the trip.
Travelers spend money on hotels, flights, tours, activities, rental cars, transfers, travel insurance, eSIMs and other services before and during a vacation. For travel publishers, that creates a lot of affiliate opportunities. It can also create a giant mess of separate programs, dashboards, links and reporting.
With Travelpayouts, I can access many different types of travel affiliate programs from the same platform. For someone creating a lot of travel content across multiple destinations and websites, that alone makes life easier.
WHY I TRIED IT
The Problem Travelpayouts Solved for Me
My biggest problem wasn’t a lack of affiliate programs. It was scale. Growing Up Bilingual has been around for more than a decade, and I have a huge archive of content. Over the years, the way I approach travel content and monetization has also changed considerably.
Today, when I write a travel article, I think much more deliberately about what the reader is trying to accomplish and what decision they need to make next. If I’m writing something like my 10-day Guatemala itinerary, there are natural points where someone needs to decide where to stay, how to get from one destination to another and which experiences are worth booking.
The same is true of a destination guide like my Antigua Guatemala travel guide. Someone reading it isn’t simply learning about Antigua. They’re planning a trip, and that creates natural opportunities to recommend useful services they may already be considering.
The problem was all the older content I had published before I became so intentional about affiliate monetization. I had years of articles still bringing people to my websites with little or no affiliate monetization built into them. Could I go back through hundreds of posts and optimize all of them manually? Of course. Was I realistically going to have time to do that? Absolutely not.

📌 THE REAL VALUE FOR ME
I wasn’t looking for another affiliate program that would give me more links to insert manually. I wanted a better way to monetize the content I had already spent years creating without turning my entire archive into another massive project.
WHAT I LIKE MOST
Why Travelpayouts Works So Well for My Travel Content
So Many Different Travel Affiliate Opportunities in One Place
This was a bigger benefit than I expected because travel doesn’t have one obvious affiliate product. Depending on the article, a reader may need a hotel, flight, rental car, airport transfer, tour, attraction ticket, eSIM, travel insurance or another service entirely.
Having access to so many different travel affiliate opportunities in one place means I can think about what the reader actually needs rather than trying to force the same type of affiliate offer into every article. A road-trip post may have a strong rental-car opportunity. A Lake Atitlán guide might naturally include lodging, transportation and activities. An itinerary can have several different booking moments because the reader is making multiple decisions while planning the trip. The affiliate product should follow the content, not the other way around.
Drive Helps Monetize Content I Would Never Have Time to Update
Drive was one of the features that made me especially excited about trying Travelpayouts. It is Travelpayouts’ automated monetization tool for websites, and for someone with a large archive the appeal was immediate.
I already had the content and I already had traffic coming into many of those articles. What I didn’t have was hundreds of spare hours to revisit every page looking for places where I could add affiliate links. Drive can help identify opportunities across existing content instead of requiring every possible monetization opportunity to begin with me opening an old post and manually rebuilding it.
Before, I might look at an older article that gets modest traffic and think, Yes, I could probably monetize this better. Then I would look at the much larger projects sitting on my to-do list and move on. Automation means those smaller opportunities don’t always have to compete for my time before they get a chance to earn.
Managing Everything in One Place Is Just Easier
This is probably the least exciting benefit to talk about, but it is one of the most practical. Affiliate marketing gets complicated quickly: different programs, different dashboards, different links and different reporting. I don’t want managing affiliate programs to become a job in itself. I want to spend my time researching destinations, traveling, taking photos and creating better content. Anything that reduces the administrative side of monetization is a win for me.
ONE PLATFORM, MORE OPPORTUNITIES
Hotels, Tours, Transportation, eSIMs and More
One of the biggest advantages for me is being able to connect different types of travel content with the products and services readers may actually need next instead of relying on a single type of affiliate offer.
OLD CONTENT, NEW VALUE
Why Automating Old Travel Content Has So Much Potential
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned from affiliate marketing is that traffic alone doesn’t determine whether an article can make money. Intent matters enormously. An article doesn’t necessarily need thousands and thousands of visitors to generate an affiliate commission. Sometimes you need one reader researching exactly the right thing at exactly the right moment.
An older or niche article may only receive a modest amount of traffic, but if one of those readers is actively planning a trip and books a hotel, tour or other travel service after finding the information they needed, that article can still produce affiliate revenue. The problem was that if monetizing the article required me to spend an hour finding, creating and inserting links manually, I might never get around to doing it.
That is why automation has so much potential for me. I have already spent years creating this content. Travelpayouts gives more of that archive an opportunity to earn without requiring me to individually rebuild every article. It makes the long tail of my websites more valuable.
📌 AFFILIATE LESSON
A page does not have to be one of your biggest traffic winners to generate a commission. A smaller article that reaches the right reader at the moment they are ready to book can be extremely valuable.
BETTER CONTENT STRATEGY
Travelpayouts Also Changed How I Think About New Travel Content
Using affiliate tools more intentionally has reinforced something important for me: the best affiliate opportunities happen when the monetization connects naturally to the reason someone came to the article in the first place. If someone searches for a hotel guide, they’re probably choosing a hotel. If they search for the best tours in a destination, they may be ready to book a tour. If they search for an itinerary, they’re beginning to make decisions about lodging, transportation and activities.
Those readers are much closer to spending money than someone who is simply browsing travel inspiration. That may seem obvious, but it is easy to forget when you’re chasing traffic. I’ve written before about ways to increase traffic to your blog, and traffic is obviously still important. But I now think about traffic and monetization as two related but separate questions.
How can I bring more people to this article? And then: If the right person reaches this article, am I giving them a useful next step? Travelpayouts makes that second question much easier to address across far more of my content.
AUTOMATION + EDITORIAL CONTROL
I Still Add Affiliate Links Manually When the Recommendation Matters
Using Travelpayouts doesn’t mean I have automated everything and stopped thinking about affiliate strategy. There are plenty of situations where I want to recommend something very specific. If I’ve stayed at a hotel I really liked, taken a tour I think is worth the money or know which transportation option makes the most sense, I want to explain why I recommend it and provide a direct link at the point where that information helps the reader make a decision.

Automation fills a different gap. It helps with all of the opportunities scattered throughout my websites that I would otherwise miss. For me, the sweet spot is intentional affiliate recommendations on important content plus broader automated monetization across the site. I don’t expect either approach to do everything.
MULTIPLE WEBSITES
I Liked Travelpayouts Enough to Put It on Three Websites
This may be the simplest way to sum up my experience. I started with one website, and once I saw how easy Travelpayouts was to implement and how many different opportunities it gave me to monetize existing travel content, I added it to my other two travel sites.
Magical Central America focuses specifically on Central America travel, while 365 Things SWFL covers Southwest Florida. Both are significantly smaller than Growing Up Bilingual, and they are already starting to generate some affiliate revenue too.
That was exciting to see because those smaller sites are exactly where automation makes so much sense for me. Realistically, I am not going to stop everything else I’m doing and spend weeks manually optimizing every old article on three different websites. The fact that Travelpayouts was quick and easy to implement made adding it to the additional sites a very easy decision.
Why This Matters for Smaller Sites
A smaller site does not necessarily need massive traffic before affiliate monetization becomes relevant. Niche articles can attract readers with very specific buying intent, and automation lowers the amount of work required to give those pages a chance to earn.
WHO IT’S FOR
Who I Think Travelpayouts Is Best For
I think Travelpayouts is especially worth looking at if you already have a large archive of travel content, cover different parts of the travel-planning process, run more than one website or simply don’t have time to manage dozens of affiliate opportunities manually.
Established travel bloggers: If there are dozens or hundreds of older posts you know could be monetized better, the ability to work across an existing archive is particularly appealing.
Creators covering multiple parts of a trip: Hotels, activities, transportation, connectivity and other services create different affiliate opportunities, and Travelpayouts makes it easier to have more of those options available in one place.
Publishers with multiple websites: This has been a significant advantage for me because I can use the same platform across all three of my travel properties.
Smaller travel sites with useful content: You don’t necessarily need massive traffic before affiliate marketing becomes relevant. A small amount of highly targeted traffic can still have real value.
A GOOD FIT FOR YOUR SITE?
Already Have Travel Content and Traffic?
If you know you have affiliate opportunities buried in older content but don’t have time to optimize every article manually, Travelpayouts is particularly worth exploring.
KEEP EXPECTATIONS REALISTIC
What Travelpayouts Can’t Do for You
There is an important caveat. Travelpayouts can’t make bad content good, create traffic that doesn’t exist or turn someone with no intention of traveling into a buyer. You still need useful content, traffic and readers whose interests connect naturally with products or services they may actually buy.
This is why I don’t see Travelpayouts as a shortcut to creating a successful travel blog. I see it as a way to better monetize the work you’ve already done and the audience you’ve already built. That’s a very different promise, and to me a much more useful one.
GETTING STARTED
How I Would Start With Travelpayouts
If I were setting Travelpayouts up again, I wouldn’t make it complicated. I would start with the website where I already have the most travel content and traffic, create a free account, add the site as a project and explore the affiliate programs that best match what my readers are already searching for and booking.
Then I would look at Drive, especially if I had a large archive that wasn’t fully monetized. I would still add intentional affiliate recommendations to important articles where I know exactly what I want to recommend, but I would let automation help catch opportunities elsewhere.
Finally, I would pay attention to what actually generates affiliate activity. Affiliate revenue isn’t just income; it’s information. If one type of article consistently generates bookings, that tells you something about what those readers want and can help you decide which existing posts deserve more attention and which new articles might be worth creating.
📌 MY STARTING POINT
Start with the content and traffic you already have. You don’t need to rebuild your entire affiliate strategy on day one. Get the platform running, see where the opportunities are and then become more intentional with the content that shows the most potential.
REFERRAL BONUS
How the Travelpayouts Referral Program Works
Since I’m recommending Travelpayouts using a referral link, I want to be transparent about how that works. If you join through my link, you can receive up to $100 in bonuses as you get started and reach Travelpayouts’ qualifying earning milestones.
I can earn a referral reward too. Travelpayouts currently pays referring partners up to $600 per successful referral as that creator reaches higher earning milestones. This isn’t instant money for either of us simply because you create an account. The rewards grow as you actually use Travelpayouts and begin earning.
Referral Rewards
Your potential bonus: Up to $100 as you reach qualifying milestones.
My referral reward: $100 when a referral reaches $500 in earnings, another $200 at $1,500, and another $300 at $3,000, for a maximum of $600 per successful referral.
I actually like that the program is structured this way because the biggest rewards don’t come from simply convincing someone to open an account. They’re tied to that person actually using the platform and succeeding with it.
MY TRAVELPAYOUTS REFERRAL LINK
Start Monetizing More of the Content You Already Have
Travelpayouts is free to join. If you sign up through my referral link, you can qualify for up to $100 in additional bonuses as you begin earning through the platform.
MY VERDICT
Is Travelpayouts Worth It? My Experience So Far
For me, yes. What sold me wasn’t one individual affiliate program or one flashy feature. It was the combination. I can access a wide range of travel affiliate opportunities without building a completely separate system for hotels, tours, transportation, eSIMs and everything else. I can still create intentional affiliate links when there is something specific I want to recommend, while Drive helps give older content and overlooked opportunities a chance to earn.
And I can use the same system across multiple travel sites. That’s why I started with one website and ended up adding Travelpayouts to all three. Seeing even my smaller sites begin to generate some revenue from content that was already there made me realize just how much opportunity I had probably been leaving untouched.
So yes, I wish I’d done this sooner. If you have an established travel blog—or even a smaller site with useful travel content and some traffic—I think it’s worth looking at what is already sitting in your archives before assuming you need to publish another hundred articles to grow your affiliate income. You may already have the content and the readers. You may simply need a better way to connect those readers with the things they’re already planning to book.
For me, Travelpayouts isn’t about turning every article into an affiliate page. It’s about making sure more of the content I’ve already worked so hard to create has the opportunity to keep working for me.
