The Moments in the Wild series is a unique set of books published by Moonstone Press and edited by Stephanie Maze. Each book is filled with beautiful real-life images taken by world famous photographers. The set consists of four titles available in both English and Spanish.
There is something about animals that just captures the attention and the imagination of children. Both of my children love animals and they are always attracted to beautiful animal pictures. I believe that an image is indeed worth a thousand words and that is the case with every page of the Moments in the Wild series of books.
From the moment we received the Moments in the Wild books my children where drawn to them and could not help but smile at their Ohhs! Ahhs! and Awws! as they turned each page watching the gorgeous photographs.
These books are the perfect tool to encourage children to learn about wildlife and are ideal for beginning readers. The hardcover biding makes them sturdy enough for younger children and although these books where made with preschoolers in mind they are ideal for older children who are starting to read. The Spanish version of the series was the ideal tool to encourage both of my children to improve their reading skills in Spanish and expand their vocabulary.
Trough vivid photographs children will discover the dazzling colors that can be found in nature from green snakes and pink flamingos to blue frogs and purple star fish. This is a fun way to learn colors and learn about animals at the same time. The book ends with the following quote “ the animals in the world are of many different colors, just like people.”
Animals make their homes in many different places, birds prefer nests while clown fish make the coral reef their home. In this book children will be transported into different animal environments and homes from beehives, and African prairies to deserts and swamps. As in all of the books in the series each turn of the page reveals a full color double-page photograph, some of them so beautiful they just take your breath away.
This book is the ideal tool to teach children about how different animals care for their young. The 2 page spreads depict photographs of animals with their baby or babies from cuddly lion and polar bear cubs snuggling with their mothers to a crocodile carrying it’s young in her mouth. My children loved getting in inside look into different animal families. I just love the gorgeous pictures and the wonderful colors that make you feel so close to all of these animals as they are sharing such intimate moments with their young.
Colorful photographs show polar bears embraced in dance, elephants with tangled trunks, a sea lion playing peek-a-boo, lion cubs playfully biting mom’s tail and lots of other curious and fun animal behavior that had my children giggling with the turn of each page. The full color nature photographs are accompanied by a few lines of simple text perfect for preschoolers to follow along while you read or for young independent readers.
Disclosure: I received a copy of the 4 Moments in the Wild books in English and a copy of the 4 Momentos en El Reino Animal to review but was not financially compensated in any way. All opinions expressed here are honest and my own and are based on my observations while reading this book with my children.
