It’s, finally, football season! Who else is excited for crunch time? When I think about football I automatically think of football parties and tailgates. And that, of course, leads to thinking about tailgate food! Growing up in Miami I followed the college teams and tailgating was a huge part of our game day routine. My friends and I always put that latino spin on the typical tailgate menu which lead me to develop my, hands down, favorite tailgate food – Mango Coke Chicken Wings.

This season I’ll be stopping by Sam’s Club to grab my football food supplies. We usually have quite the crowd tailgating with us so I need to prep my tailgate food in super-sizes. I have been using Sam’s Club’s pick-up in store feature a lot lately, which I have found very convenient. I just place my order online and pick it up later. No hassle, at all. I can focus on the food prep and some of our family favorite game day snacks. My all time favorite is the chicken wing. But, as I mentioned, I make mine a little differently than the BBQ or Buffalo wings you might normally nosh on, on game day.
To make my all-time, favorite Mango Coke Chicken Wings you’ll need some Coke, and I recommend picking up a Coca-Cola 28 pack, the ideal tailgating size, at Sam’s Club. You’ll use a few cans of Coke to make my favorite Chicken wings as it compliments the key ingredient in my recipe – Mango! The taste of Coke and mango marinated chicken wings is incredible. They are also very simple to prepare ahead of time and bring to the game. You can either make them at home and keep them warm until tailgate time or throw your wings on the portable grill. It’s up to you, they’ll taste delicious either way!

Coke & Mango BBQ Wings
Ingredients
- 1 cup Coca-Cola
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1 mango diced
- 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 cup A-1 steak sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon of chipotle powder
Instructions
-
Combine all ingredients in a food processor until mixture is smooth.
-
Transfer mix into a heavy saucepan and gradually bring to a boil over medium heat.
-
Reduce the heat slightly to obtain a gentle simmer.
-
Simmer the sauce until reduced by 1/4, 6 to 8 minutes.
-
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
-
Season the chicken wings on both sides with salt, pepper and a dash of chipotle powder if you want a bit more heat.
-
On a large roasting pan set the wings in a single layer.
-
Bake the chicken wings, turning once, until browned, about 30 minutes.
-
Remove the wings from the oven.
-
Pour off all the fat from the pan.
-
Place the wings over paper towels to remove excess fat.
-
Return the wings to the pan.
-
Brush barbecue sauce over the chicken wings and return to the oven.
-
Bake for 10 minutes.
-
Turn the wings over and bake 10 minutes longer.

Of course I’ll have to prepare my tailgate with some decorations to support the team and make it all a little more festive. So, even if you aren’t a Florida team fan, you can incorporate all these tailgate food and Printables ideas to cheer on your favorite college or professional football team!
