I recently posted about the Box Tops for education program and how in our family collecting them is something that we enjoy doing together.  Saving Box Tops is something that will benefit their own school by providing money to fund important programs and buy school supplies. This teaches your kids about the importance of giving back to their own community and being selfless.  You can check out my previous post about ways to teach your children to give back here.

Giving back can be fun and it only takes a little creativity and motivating to get them excited about it.  We have turned collecting Box Tops into somewhat of a game. Both of my kids will look for products with the Box Tops.  At our kid’s school they do a great job of motivating the kids to bring in their Box Tops by giving them a no-uniform pass when they reach a certain number and throwing a classroom pizza party a couple of times per year.  At home we also try to make it fun so this year as we prepare to get back to school I created a special Box Tops collection box.  Reusing an old container I created a friendly monster that eats Box Tops.  Both of my kids love feeding it and now they are always asking for more Box Tops to put into the monster’s mouth!

Instructions

  • Cover the container with the blue foam sheet making sure to leave a little space so that you can still open and close the lid.
  • Cut the eyes, the hands, feet, teeth and hair from the white, black and yellow foam sheets.
  • Using a pencil make a two inch line where the mouth of your monster will be.
  • Using an X-acto knife cut out a slit to make the mouth. Make it a few millimeters wide so that the Box Tops will fit easily through it.

How To Collect More BOXTOPS To Feed Your Monster

Each Box Top for Education is worth $0.10 for your child’s school and schools can buy whatever they need so the more you collect the more you are helping your school, here are some ways to make the most of this great program.

  • Buying select General Mills products with Bonus Box Tops at Walmart is a great way to increase the amount Box Tops you are collecting for your school.  Each of these products has 5 Box Tops!

  • Collect Box Tops from family members. My kids have even gotten the grandparents involved in collecting Box Tops and every weekend when we get together my parents give the kids the Box Tops they have collected throughout the week.
