There are easy steps you can take to improve your oral health. These tips for a healthy smile and healthy gums can help you prevent and even reverse the early signs of gingivitis.
When we think about oral health we usually focus on taking care of our teeth and may not realize how important it is to take care of our gums. But did you know that according to NatruSmile, nearly half (46%) of all adults aged 30 years or older show signs of gum disease. Although good oral hygiene and regular brushing help keep both our teeth and gums healthy there are some specific things we can do to prevent gingivitis and gum disease.
5 Tips for A Healthy Smile and Healthy Gums
Having healthy teeth and gums is not just important for your overall health, it also ensures a healthy and beautiful smile which in turn boosts your self-confidence and motivation. And the more you smile and laugh the healthier and happier you are.
Smiling more has been linked to reducing stress as well as boosting your immune system. And the first step to smiling more is taking care of your teeth and gums so that you have a healthy and beautiful smile. That is why I’m sharing tips for a healthy smile and healthy gums and how making small changes in your daily routine can have a huge positive impact on your oral health.
Focus on healthy habits.
Exercising, eating healthy, as well as quitting smoking are the first steps to being healthy. Smoking has an especially negative impact on your oral health and has been linked to greatly increasing the probability of gum disease.
If you want to keep your teeth healthy it’s a great idea to cut down on sugary foods and foods and drinks that are highly acidic. It’s also important to make sure you’re eating foods with lots of calcium like milk and yogurt which will help strengthen your teeth and bones.
Brushing your teeth is important but how you brush is also important.
I brush my teeth after each meal, usually three times a day. Most dentists recommend brushing your teeth at least twice a day but I find that it’s easier to brush routinely after each meal. It’s just something I do automatically now.
Although brushing your teeth is the first step in keeping your teeth and gums healthy, how you brush them makes a huge difference. I always make sure I’m using a soft-bristled toothbrush and brush my teeth at a 45-degree angle to my gums using short strokes.
Use the right mouthwash.
Although I’m usually pretty good at doing everything I should be doing to keep my teeth and gums healthy my gums were a bit inflamed and there was occasional gum bleeding when I brushed.

Yes, you need to floss daily.
For me, one of the hardest things for me when it comes to oral health is remembering to floss daily. That is why it’s important to make flossing part of your routine. I make sure to floss every morning as part of my morning routine and this makes it so much easier.
Get regular cleanings.
Seeing your dentist regularly ensures that any issues are detected early. So don’t skip that visit to the dentist.
The easiest way to keep your teeth and gums healthy is to turn some of these actions into habits by making them part of your daily routine.
