An Easy Thanksgiving Craft Your Kids Will Love
My little man is really crafty, so I’m always looking for fun craft ideas for kids. We came up with the idea of making this Thanksgiving turkey craft because we were looking for fun Thanksgiving activities for the kids.
We used some mini pumpkins we had leftover from Halloween, and some fall leaves to make these cute little pumpkin turkeys. It is a very easy project to make with the kids. This pumpkin turkey craft would also make a nice decoration for the Thanksgiving table or a Thanksgiving party at school or home.
Thanksgiving Pumpkin Turkey Craft
I love fall and the holiday season, and finding new ideas to make Thanksgiving fun for kids is at the top of my list. Making crafts with my kids is one of the best ways to involve them in all the preparations. As a mom, I always look for easy things we can do as a family. And with this fun and super easy thanksgiving craft, you get to spend time with the little ones and make a cute centerpiece for your table!
Materials For Pumpkin Craft
- A small pumpkin
- Brown and yellow foamy
- Red felt
- Fall leaves
- Googly eyes
- Glue gun and glue sticks
We used store-bought leaves only because we don’t have fall leaves available here in Florida. But it would have been much more fun to make these with real leaves. You can also use foam pumpkins for this so that they will last longer. Pick different colors to bring depth and texture to the “feathers.”
How To Make Thanksgiving Pumpkin Turkey Craft
Step 1. Cut the head and the feet from the brown foamy to create a turkey face and legs.
Step 2. Cut the beak from the yellow foamy and put it on the head along with the googly eyes. Next, cut a little oval using the red felt to make the wattle.
Step 3. Let everything dry for a couple of minutes. Then glue the back of the head to the stem of the pumpkin.
Step 4. Place the turkey facing you and glue the feet to the front of the pumpkin.
Step 5. To create the feathers, glue three to four leaves in the back of the pumpkin to make the tail. Alternate red and yellow leaves (or whatever colors you picked or have at hand) to give it a more realistic look. Let it dry for a couple of minutes. It is ready to be the centerpiece of this year’s Thanksgiving table decorations!
Mom tip: My kids love using scissors; it makes them feel all grown up! So to make them part of the crafting process, I let them use their safety round scissors to cut larger shapes like the head and feet. That way, they feel they contribute more than just gluing. And to make it easier on the younger ones, use a pencil to outline where to cut.

For the non artist crafty person it would be wonderful to have templates of the head, beak, wattle and feet. I love the idea. I want to make the pumpkin and use it as a placecard holder. Thank you for an easy idea, I think.
Do you have pattern for head and feet?
I wouldn’t mind a template either. Thanks for sharing this cute idea!
I would be most appreciative of the templates as well. What an adorable idea!
