This easy to make caramel apple custard dessert brings together the flavors of caramel apples and the creamy deliciousness of flan and it’s the perfect flan to enjoy this fall.
Caramel Apple Flan

Flan, a sweet custard dessert usually topped with caramel is a favorite in most of Latin America. Growing up flan was one of those desserts that was always ready in the refrigerator whenever anyone wanted to satisfy their sweet tooth.

Coffee and creamer

As I drank my morning coffee I was inspired by the creamy and rich flavor of my International Delight® coffee creamer and thought: why not use it instead of milk to make a flan. After all using International Delight® instead of milk makes my cup of coffee come to life and I can choose from so many flavors to add excitement to my cup of cafecito. My favorites are French Vanilla, Caramel Macchiato and Cold Stone Creamery™ Sweet Cream.

Caramel Apple Flan

I enjoy coffee not only in the mornings but also during the afternoon. The time I take to sit down with my cup of cafe con leche or rather leche con cafe is my special break, a time to recharge my energy and to rest from the hustle and bustle of my day. It’s also a time to indulge and enjoy in the present. Adding International Delight® to my coffee takes that coffee break to another level!

Coffee and apple caramel flan

I have made chocolate, coffee and coconut flan before but on this occasion wanted a flavor that would reflect the fall season and decided to create a caramel apple flan. After all caramel and apples are the perfect flavor combination for fall so although I have never had a caramel apple flan before it just made sense that these flavors would go well together.

You can make a large flan but I had some small bundt cake molds I had not used and thought they would be great for making individual flans. I was not expecting these to look so great though.

Caramel Apple Flan

I sautéed some apple slices with a little butter, sugar and cinnamon and topped my flans with them which really makes them look festive. I also added some fresh mint at the top just to give it a pop of color. At home we always like to bring some Latino flavors into our Thanksgiving dinner and this caramel apple flan would make the perfect smooth custard dessert to enjoy for Thanksgiving. It’s sure to be a crowd pleaser with your family and it certainly looks festive.

  3. This sounds really good but I am confused about the applesauce. Applesauce is on the list of ingredients but the directions don’t say what to do with it. Do you add it to the egg mixture?
