With the kids out of school and the sun shining outside I sometimes wish I was at the beach instead of stuck behind the computer. So the other day we put the kids to bed early with the idea of creating a little summer staycation date night at home.
Both of us love margaritas but we wanted something lighter and fruitier so I decided to make a wine based margarita using a Sutter Home Chardonnay I had in the fridge. To add a tropical touch I combined it with guava nectar. The result was a sweet and tangy cocktail with a delicious tropical feel. Instead of rimming the glassed with salt I used tajín, a Mexican seasoning that combines the tartness of lime, salt and a little bit of heat. The combination of the guava and the tajín was fantastic!
As I took my first drink of this sweet and tangy margarita I was transported back home to Guatemala by the scent and flavor of the guava as this was always one of my favorite treats growing up. As we sat out on the lanai sipping our wine guavaritas and watching the sunset between the palm trees in our back yard we totally forgot we where at home and could almost smell the ocean and hear the waves crashing far away.
This is the second wine cocktail I make this summer using the Sutter Home wines. Last month I made a delicious wine mango mojito and this months it was the wine guava margarita and I have realized how much I like the wine versions of these favorite cocktails. Wine makes the cocktails so fresh, light and bright!
