Combining authentic Colombian fare with a fun, festive and unique ambiance Pueblito Viejo in Miami is a fantastic family friendly restaurant you will not forget.
We travel to Miami often as a family and I am always on the lookout for new restaurants as we don’t have a great variety of good restaurants where we live. On our last trip we where celebrating my daughters birthday and I wanted to find a special restaurant to celebrate the occasion. I wanted a place that was fun, family friendly but also authentic and I was trilled when I found Pueblito Viejo.
From the moment we parked we knew we where in for a real treat as we walked towards the bright colored building designed to resemble a colorful Colombian small-town casita (house). As soon as we stepped inside both of my kids where in awe looking at all of the colorful objects, it was like being hit by a wave of Colombian culture! You see, every inch of the walls and ceiling are covered with flowers, nick-nacks and Colombian souvenirs and other fun things like dolls and even life sized mannequins resembling famous Colombian artists and tables are filled with photos of famous people, artists and regular patrons enjoying their food and the unique ambiance of Pueblito Viejo which is furthered enhanced by the lively music in Spanish.
We started by ordering some beef and chicken empanadas and refresco de tamarindo (tamarind drink). My daughter was thrilled since she had never had Colombian food and she is quite an adventurous eater so eating something new and exciting on her birthday was a real treat.
We followed the empanadas by a Picada Pueblito Viejo: a platter of bite-sized fried pork, Colombian sausage, chicharron, green plantains, cassava, arepa and tomatoes; a feast which is supposed to be for two people but could have probably fed three of us.
Cesar ordered the Pechuga Pueblito Viejo; a huge and incredibly juicy grilled chicken breast served with salad and salted boiled potatoes.
Sebastian does not share the rest of the family’s adventurous eating preferences, he’s beyond picky and we sometimes have to leave a restaurant because there is nothing for him in the menu. So we loved that along with all of the authentic Colombian fare there is also a kid’s menu with picky-eater favorites like chicken nuggets along with small portions of more authentic kid favorites like salchipapas (beef franks) or grilled chicken or beef accompanied by rice and beans.
We finished our meal with some truly fantastic desserts. I ordered the Cuatro Leches, which was sweet, moist and had a velvety texture. Tres Leches is one of my favorite desserts and this is Cuatro Leches was one of the best I’ve ever had. We also ordered a flan de caramelo which was also delicious! If you are a flan lover also offer coconut flan and cheese flan. Next time we visit I really want to try the braves with require (figs with Colombian dulce de leche) and . I don’t like “cake” much but I am a huge fan of authentic Latinamerican desserts!
Pueblito Viejo is a great option for families in Miami, it’s unique and fun decor and delicious authentic Colombian fare make for a truly memorable experience wether you’re celebrating a special occasion or just want a great meal in a family friendly environment.
I can not give enough praise to the wonderful service. All of the servers where so attentive and would smile at the kids every time they walked by clad in their fun uniforms. My daughter dropped her glass which broke into a million pieces, she felt terrible but the servers reassured her with warm smiles that it was all ok as they quickly cleaned the mess. This meant so much to us and made her feel great after the accident. When it came time to sing happy birthday all the servers gathered together and sang next to our table accompanied by panderetas (tambourines); we felt like we where celebrating with longtime friends.
We had an early dinner and did not stay for the Fiesta, but later in the evening there is usually live music or a DJ which accompanied by a full bar that includes traditional Colombian drinks like aguardiente and refajo along with staples like margaritas, sangria, mojitos along with a variety of beers and wines.
