Healthy Day Of The Dead Sugar Skull Fruit Pizza

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Nestle® Pure Life® . The opinions and text are all mine.

This Day of the Dead sugar skull fruit pizza or fruit cookie cake is the perfect sweet treat for your Halloween party. Loaded with fresh fruit and with a yogurt based cream cheese frosting it’s the kind of nutritious Halloween treat you want your kids to eat! This fun treat was inspired by the sugar skull designs on the Nestlé® Pure Life® Limited Edition “Share-A-Scare™” Halloween bottles.

Halloween is one of our favorite times of the year and we always throw a party for the kids. Our family also celebrates the Day of the Dead on November 1st, so this year we want to share a little bit of our Latino traditions with our friends by throwing a Day of the Dead themed Halloween party. For our Day of the Dead Halloween party we wanted to make sure that we included some healthier and nutritious options that the kids would love.

We started off by creating a Day of the Dead sugar skull fruit pizza. Not only is this delicious Halloween treat loaded with fresh fruit but we also tweaked the cookie and frosting recipes to create a recipe with less sugar and more protein. To accomplish this we reduced the amount of butter in the cookie recipe replacing it for Greek yogurt and created a skinny version of the traditional cream cheese frosting.

Water is an essential nutrient for life, but sodas, fruit drinks, sports drinks and other sugary beverages are crowding water out of kids’ diets. According to a recent study a little more than half of all children and adolescents aren’t getting enough hydration.[1]

It’s worrisome to think that today, beverages account for 47% of added sugars in the US American Diet and more than 13% of calories consumed per day. That is why we are always encouraging our kids to drink more water and we where so excited to find the new Nestlé® Pure Life® Limited Edition “Share-A-Scare™” Halloween bottles!  Available in 8 different Halloween-inspired designs, the Nestlé® Pure Life® Limited Edition “Share-A-Scare™” Halloween bottles are the perfect addition to a classroom party, neighborhood get-together, or Day of the Dead celebration.
