Sugar Skull Pots and Flowers Craft for Kids

These Sugar Skull Pots and Flowers are an easy craft for kids to make for el Dia de los Muertos. Sugar Skull Planter and Flowers Craft for KidsThis easy duct tape project is fun to make with the kids. Sugar skulls and paper flowers are commonly used during the Day of the Dead celebrations to decorate altars where the photographs of loved ones are displayed. I was looking for a fun Day of the Dead craft to make with the kids and I came up with the idea to create these sugar skull pots with flowers. This kid-friendly Day of the Dead craft is the perfect activity to do with the kids during a Day of the Dead party or celebration.

My kids had so much fun making these and I was thrilled that we finally found a use for the sugar skull duckt tape I bought last year and didn’t get to use. This year I am hoping to use it for quite a few Day of the Dead DIY projects.

  • Sugar skull duct tape
  • Scissors

  • 2 pieces of yellow tissue paper
  • 1 piece of blue tissue paper

Step 2. Apply the duck tape in strips from the top to the bottom. Then put a strip of tape on the side of the planter, leave about an inch of tape at the bottom. Cut two slits in the extra tape so that it can be stuck to the bottom of the planter without making creases in the tape.

Step 8. Use the blue tissue paper cut into 6 inch wide strips and use the same method to create a flower edge behind the yellow one (as shown).
