skull pizza Day of the Dead Halloween Dia de los MuertosWe are preparing to celebrate El Día de los Muertos or Day of the Dead this coming weekend.  Along with the traditional Guatemalan foods like fiambre and molletes we also wanted to have some kid friendly and fun snacks so I came up with the idea of making skull pizzas.

Skull Pizza for a Day of the Dead Celebration

Ingredients

  • 1 package of small pizza crusts
  • pizza sauce
  • 2 cups shredded Oaxaca cheese or you can use mozzarella instead
  • black olives
  • yellow bell pepper cut into thin strips
  • red bell pepper cut into thin strips
  • pepperoni
  • capers

Instructions

  1. Cut the pizza crusts into a skull shape.
  2. Spray olive oil on the crust and spread the pizza sauce on it.
  3. Add the cheese and decorate your skulls using your favorite pizza toppings.

These where not only good but they where so much fun to do with the kids. You can use any ingredients you like and this is an activity that really fosters creativity.  I cut up lots of different colored veggies and gave them to my children and it was great to see my little man who usually doesn’t eat vegetables put lots of different vegetables on his pizza because he wanted to make a colorful design.
