  1. Rinse the Rice: Be sure to rinse the rice under cold water before cooking to remove excess starch. This will help achieve a better texture in the final dish.
  2. Milk Substitutions: Use whole milk for a rich and creamy consistency. It adds a luscious texture to the arroz con leche. You can substitute whole milk for almond milk or soy milk for a vegan version of this rice pudding dessert.
  3. Adjust the Flavor: The hazelnut powder and Guatemalan brewed coffee are the key flavor components in this recipe. Adjust the amount of hazelnut powder according to your preference. Make sure to use strong and cooled brewed coffee to avoid diluting the flavors. I used a Guatemalan coffee from the area of Antigua Guatemala as it is one of my favorites!

Storage and Freezing Rice Pudding

After preparing the hazelnut coffee arroz con leche, any leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Simply reheat individual servings as needed. If you wish to freeze the arroz con leche, transfer it to a freezer-safe container leaving at least two inches above to allow for it to expand. Store for up to 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight and gently reheat before serving.
