Valentine’s is just around the corner! And I have been trying to come up with ideas to use all the scrapbooking paper I have lying around, so I decided to try these adorable DIY paper boxes. They double as gift boxes to hold love notes or for packaging a small sweet treat. Using just a nice piece of paper, this beautiful paper box origami craft is so easy to make and oh-so-cute!
Beautiful DIY Valentine’s Day Gift Box
Nothing shows how much you care like a homemade Valentine’s gift. So every year, I take out our crafting supplies and get the kids involved. We love coming up with new Valentine’s Day ideas and crafts while baking delicious chocolate desserts to enjoy our time together.
Then, my little guy thought about a simple box paper craft we could use to fill up with a love message or a treat, so here we are! This paper box Origami is very simple to make, but the results are adorably impressive. This useful little DIY paper box is perfect for holding candy hearts or small chocolates!
How to Make an Easy Paper Box
This tutorial has step-by-step instructions, so it’s easy to understand how to make paper boxes for gifts. And you can download the free printable template right here. The best thing about these is that they’re handcrafted with love and can be personalized however you wish!
These cute DIY paper boxes need no glue; you can fill them with a special gift or a small treat. I made a small paper flower for one of them, and for the other, I cut out the word LOVE on a small card. Then I lifted the letters to give to make it three-dimensional, turning an ordinary paper box craft into a beautiful Valentine’s Day gift box.
What You’ll Need For The Paper Boxes
- Card stock (or other paper of your choice)
- Scissors
- A hole puncher
- Ribbon.
How to Make Paper Boxes For Gifts
STEP 1. Choose a nice piece of paper; you can use card stock with a cute design or solid color. You can also choose translucent paper, as I did for one of my boxes. Make sure the piece is 8.5″ by 11″.
STEP 2. Print the free printable template onto the inside of the paper you chose.
STEP 3. Cut out the shape carefully.
STEP 4. Score along the inside lines. Use the tip of a pair of scissors like a pencil and trace along the lines. This will make it easier to fold, and the folds will be crisp and clean. Be sure not to cut all the way through the paper.
STEP 5. Punch a hole at the top of the box. Finally, tie a bow with a lovely ribbon to the box to give it the final touch.
If you want, you can add your own message to the inside of the papercraft gift box, as I did with this one. It adds so much to this easy origami box gift by having that special message inside when you open it!
I love how this paper lets you see something inside the box without giving a little surprise entirely away. You can fill it with a sweet candy heart or a mini love letter!

For this cute Valentine’s Day craft, you will need different colored card stock, scissors, and some glue. But these boxes are perfect for Valentine’s or any other occasion. So go ahead and get the free printable template HERE and have some fun with these super easy-to-make DIY paper boxes!
How to Make a Paper Gift Box with a Paper Flower Inside
First, cut the petals. Then, holding them with two fingers, fold them just a bit in the middle to give shape to each petal. Next, I put the flower on top of a base made from accordion-folded paper. To make the base, fold a piece of paper and join both ends together, forming a small circle.
Now glue the petals together. Once the flower is finished, you can glue it on top of the accordion folded circle you made earlier.
