Find ways to enjoy exercising

I have never liked exercising but as I have grown older I’ve learned to find ways to stay active and move more. The key is finding things you love to do and trying to incorporate those activities into your daily routine. I love hiking, walking my dog, kayaking, and paddleboarding.

During the week I make sure to walk once or twice a day. I also practice yoga and do some stretching first thing in the morning. On the weekends, since I have some more time, I combine family time with activities that get everyone moving. I always try to include a kayaking trip with the kids or even a paddleboarding date with hubby. 

I find that turning exercise into something I enjoy doing with other people makes me look forward to it instead of becoming a chore. I don’t like going to the gym but I love spending time outdoors so I stick to what I enjoy. 

Make small healthy changes to your diet

Eating healthier doesn’t mean that you have to stop enjoying your food. I have slowly added more salads and fruits to my meals and reduced the amount of meat I eat. I stay away from over-processed foods and fried foods and have also reduced the amount of carbs and sugar I eat. These changes have happened slowly, but when I look at the way I used to eat 10 years ago and how I eat now I am very proud of my progress. 

When I’m craving a snack, feel hungry in the middle of the day, or need to replenish my energy before or after exercising I make myself a healthy smoothie instead of reaching for an unhealthy snack.
